Turning HR Expertise Into Market Authority: Focus HR’s LinkedIn Growth Strategy

How Method Marketing helped Focus HR grow visibility, strengthen CPA referral relationships and build authority across LinkedIn, email and AI search.

Background

Focus HR is an Arizona-based provider helping small businesses simplify HR, payroll, employee benefits, workers’ compensation, and compliance. Operating since 2003, the business is built on a clear promise: “Big HR designed for small business.”

But like many B2B service providers, Focus HR faced a common challenge: standing out in a crowded, trust-driven market where buyers rarely make decisions after a single interaction.

The business wanted to:

  • strengthen visibility among small business owners
  • stay top-of-mind with CPAs and referral partners
  • position Clint Parry as a trusted HR outsourcing expert
  • create educational content that supported both SEO and emerging AI search opportunities
  • build long-term authority instead of relying solely on promotional marketing

Focus HR partnered with Method Marketing to develop a strategic thought leadership and content marketing campaign designed to turn expertise into visibility.

The Strategy

Method Marketing built a multi-channel authority campaign with LinkedIn at the centre.

Instead of focusing heavily on service promotion, the strategy positioned Focus HR as a trusted source of practical HR advice for small business owners, accountants and operational leaders.

The campaign combined:

  • executive LinkedIn thought leadership
  • audience-specific LinkedIn newsletters
  • educational blog content
  • email marketing
  • Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) strategies
  • owned-channel distribution

Katie Cowling, Digital Services Director at Method Marketing, explains the thinking behind the strategy:

“For B2B businesses, authority compounds over time. Buyers and referral partners need repeated exposure before trust is established. We built a content ecosystem designed to keep Focus HR visible wherever business owners and accountants were already looking for answers.”

Executive LinkedIn Thought Leadership

At the centre of the strategy was Clint Parry’s personal LinkedIn presence.

Rather than relying on corporate-style updates, the content focused on real operational frustrations facing small businesses:

  • HR compliance pressure
  • burnout from administration
  • hiring and retention challenges
  • hidden HR costs
  • leadership and culture issues
  • the financial risk of outdated HR processes

The goal was to make HR discussions commercially relevant rather than purely administrative.

One high-performing post asked: “Is your HR Director actually just an expensive admin?” The post reframed the conversation from “buying HR services” to evaluating whether internal HR resources were delivering strategic value or simply consuming time and budget.

This approach consistently generated engagement because it addressed genuine business pain points instead of product features.

Building a Referral Audience Through CPA Content

CPAs were identified as a high-value referral audience for Focus HR

To strengthen visibility within this network, Method Marketing developed the CPA HR Navigator LinkedIn newsletter, a dedicated content channel for accountants, finance professionals and referral partners.

The newsletter focused on:

  • HR compliance updates
  • workforce risk
  • payroll and employment issues
  • operational efficiencies
  • HR trends affecting small businesses

This helped Focus HR remain consistently visible with referral partners while reinforcing Clint’s position as a trusted HR advisor.

Educational Content for Small Business Owners

Alongside the CPA strategy, Method Marketing launched the Small Biz HR Insider newsletter to engage directly with small business owners and operators.

The content focused on practical, easy-to-understand advice around:

  • hiring
  • employee retention
  • leadership
  • workplace culture
  • burnout
  • HR systems and processes
  • compliance risk

This educational approach helped Focus HR build trust before prospects were actively looking for HR support.

Supporting SEO & AI Search Visibility

As AI-generated search experiences continue to reshape how buyers discover businesses, Method Marketing also integrated Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) into the strategy.

The campaign was designed to strengthen Focus HR’s visibility across:

  • AI search platforms
  • AI Overviews
  • conversational search queries
  • authority-based search signals

By aligning LinkedIn content, newsletters, blog articles and email marketing around consistent expertise themes, Focus HR strengthened its ability to appear in AI-generated answers related to:

  • HR outsourcing
  • small business HR support
  • payroll and compliance
  • HR consulting
  • workforce management

Key Results

Over the 12-month reporting period to May 2026, the campaign delivered a significant increase in visibility, audience growth and authority signals.

+2,645% Increase in LinkedIn Impressions

LinkedIn visibility accelerated dramatically, helping Focus HR consistently appear in front of business owners, accountants and HR decision-makers.

The campaign generated:

  • 79,287 LinkedIn impressions
  • reach across 58,505 professionals
  • sustained audience engagement through educational thought leadership content

Audience Growth in the Right Markets

Clint Parry’s LinkedIn audience grew to 1,926 followers, representing 6.9% growth.

Importantly, the audience aligned strongly with Focus HR’s target market:

  • 31% from the Greater Tucson Area
  • 26% senior-level professionals

This reinforced the quality, not just quantity, of audience growth.

CPA Referral Network Established

The CPA HR Navigator newsletter successfully created a dedicated referral communication channel.

Results included:

  • 212 CPA-focused subscribers
  • 1,143 article views
  • increased visibility with accountants and finance leaders

Stronger Engagement Across Owned Channels

Email marketing significantly expanded campaign reach and engagement:

  • 18,665 email opens (+82%)
  • 3,173 clicks (+381%)

Meanwhile, educational blog content reinforced Focus HR’s authority beyond social media, with selected HR-focused pages increasing:

  • 506% in users
  • up to 2,973% growth on selected articles

Search Visibility Emerged as a Growth Opportunity

The campaign also supported Focus HR’s SEO and AEO foundations. Organic search remained the website’s largest traffic channel, while selected HR articles saw significant user growth.

In AEO tracking, 97% of the monitored industry prompts triggered AI Overviews, and Focus HR was already appearing as a cited domain in the data. This shows a clear opportunity to build on the brand’s existing authority and increase visibility in AI-generated search result

Client Perspective

Clint Parry, Business Development Manager at Focus HR, reflects on the strategy’s impact:

“The strategy not only improved visibility, but it changed the quality of our conversations. We’re staying top-of-mind with CPAs and getting in front of more business owners, especially when they realise their internal HR processes are no longer sustainable. It has fundamentally changed how we’re perceived in the market.”

Angela Henderson, Client Services Director at Method Marketing, adds:

“The most effective B2B marketing strategies are built around real business problems, not just service promotion. When businesses consistently provide useful, relevant insights, authority becomes a measurable growth asset.”
