Google Ads Just Released Some New Features To Optimise Your Campaigns For The Holidays

Are you looking to ramp up or optimise your campaigns for the upcoming holiday boom? Well, you should know that Google just announced a few updates that should help you with the holiday season.

New Video Tool

Adding a bumper ad to a Video reach campaign unlocks many benefits—more reach, efficiency and improved ad recall, to name a few.  Google has just launched a new tool that allows you to easily trim videos into 6-second shorts, which should make it simple to create bumper ads.

The machine learning-powered tool finds “important scenes and brand assets from the original video” and adapts them to shorter formats… all by itself. Pretty cool.

Performance Max Campaign Updates

Google launched Performance Max campaigns about a year ago to all advertisers around the world to help users increase conversions across ad channels. This week, they release their latest Performance Max additions which focus on planning, customisation, and evaluation:

  • The Performance Planner uses machine learning to “simulate” campaigns to help forecast and better understand how you can invest your budgets to maximize ROI – pretty sweet.

  • Asset group scheduling helps you schedule asset groups so you can pause or enable them when needed. Also, you can now add up to 15 headlines to your asset groups. For example, you could schedule a new set of holiday-themed assets ahead of a special sitewide sale or promotion. Or maybe you’re hosting an in-store special event and want to schedule some assets to help promote it.

  • Explanations and insights to show why campaigns may not work, perform diagnostics, and give recommendations. You can also add data segments as data signals in your campaigns, which may help you evaluate your first-party data. We look forward to evaluating how useful these insights may be in the coming days.

Time to Optimise

If you’re running Google Ads, be sure to take advantage of these updates. It’s in Google’s best interests for these tools to succeed and create conversions for your business, so you may get a few surprise wins along the way.
