Yesterday, Instagram announced that they are expanding the ability to add links in stories to everyone. Previously, the feature was exclusive to people with a verified account or those who had more than 10,000 followers.
In their words:
How do I add a link?
When you create a story, you can add a link by using the Link sticker. Then, when people tap on the sticker, they’ll be redirected to the URL you specified.
How to add a Link sticker:
- Capture or upload content to your story
- Select the sticker tool from the top navigation bar. Hint, it looks like this:
- Tap the “Link” sticker to add your desired link and tap “Done”. The link sticker looks like this:
- Place the sticker on your story — like our other stickers — and tap on the sticker to see color variations
I’m not seeing the link sticker yet… How do I update my Instagram app?
On iPhone
- Open the App Store app.
- Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.
- Scroll to see pending updates and release notes. Tap Update next to an app to update only that app, or tap Update All.
On Android
- Open the Google Play Store app .
- At the top right, tap the profile icon.
- Tap Manage apps & device. Apps with an update available are labeled “Update available.”
- Tap Update.
Ok, I’ve updated and I am still not seeing the link sticker… why not?
If you’ve updated your Instagram app and you are still not seeing the Link sticker there are a few more things you can try:
- Try deleting and re-downloading the app. Just make sure you know your login and password beforehand, because you will have to log in again.
- Shut it all down. Try turning off your phone and restarting it.
- Update your iOS software on your phone.
- Wait. Unfortunately, if the above three solutions did not work, you’ll have to wait until the rollout is completed over the next few days.
What about story ads?
In the case of Instagram story ads, they will still utilise swipe-up links. This means you cannot boost or run a story ad with a link sticker.
Good luck and happy linking!
